🇳🇬 Lake Chad Security Tightens As MNJTF Intercepts 21,000 Rounds Bound For Terrorist Network

A major terrorist logistics channel has been disrupted in Cameroon's Far North Region after personnel of the National Gendarmerie operating under Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) intercepted a suspected logistics courier carrying approximately 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition.

The seizure followed a patrol operation in the Dougoum Silio area of Logone, where the security personnel arrested 30-year-old Moussa Goudja on 10 August 2026. The ammunition was concealed inside three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers.

A statement issued by the  Acting Chief Military Public Information Officer, Headquarters MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi Onyenonachi, said preliminary investigations indicate that Goudja was transporting the ammunition for onward delivery to Ambdego when he was intercepted. He remains in the custody of a national security agency as investigations continue.

The scale of the seizure makes the operation significant beyond the arrest itself. The recovery of 21,000 rounds removes a substantial quantity of ammunition from a suspected supply chain supporting terrorist elements operating around the Lake Chad Basin and demonstrates the operational value of intelligence-led patrols along regional movement corridors.

Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General S T Audu, commended Cameroonian security forces in Sector 1 for the operation, describing the interception as a disruption of an attempted ammunition transfer to terrorist elements in the Lake Chad Basin.

The MNJTF said the operation reinforces its continuing focus on intelligence-led operations and cooperation with national security agencies to identify, disrupt and dismantle terrorist logistics networks across the multinational theatre.

The Force Command has also directed all sectors to intensify patrols and clearance operations against terrorist networks as part of wider efforts to secure the Lake Chad Basin and strengthen regional stability.
