The Nigerian Army has rescued nine more kidnapped commuters in Kogi State after troops mounted an immediate pursuit of suspected kidnappers who ambushed passengers along the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Ofu Local Government Area.

The operation demonstrates the value of rapid troop response and exploitation of the withdrawal routes used by fleeing criminal groups, with soldiers tracking the abductors from the scene of the attack to the outskirts of Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area.
Troops deployed at Patrol Base Itobe moved into action after receiving reports of the abduction. At the scene, soldiers found a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Sienna abandoned by the roadside, with their passengers missing.
The troops subsequently followed the criminals' withdrawal route and established contact with them near Adumu. During the ensuing firefight, the kidnappers were overwhelmed by the troops' superior firepower and abandoned their captives before fleeing into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot wounds.
The operation secured the release of nine victims comprising two elderly men, two elderly women, four other adult males and an infant. The rescued commuters were evacuated to safety before being handed over to the Nigeria Police, Itobe Area Command, for further necessary action and reunification with their families.
The rescue comes amid continued security pressure around Kogi's road corridors, where coordinated military and inter-agency operations remain critical to disrupting kidnapping networks and preventing abductors from moving victims deeper into forested areas.
Troops are continuing pursuit and search operations aimed at locating the remaining abducted persons and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in collaboration with other security agencies, while urging residents to provide timely and credible information capable of enabling faster responses to criminal activity.
