The operations, conducted on 25 and 26 August 2026, combined clearance operations, rapid response to distress calls and pursuit of fleeing terrorists, with troops also recovering a motorcycle abandoned by terrorists following an attempted ambush in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that troops of Sector 1 encountered terrorists during a clearance operation in Kachia on 25 August. The terrorists attempted to ambush the advancing troops but were forced to withdraw following the troops' response, after which a motorcycle was recovered during exploitation of the area.
In a separate incident around Hayin Babangida in Igabi Local Government Area, troops responded to a distress call involving the abduction of three civilians and livestock rustling. The troops tracked and engaged the terrorists, rescuing two female victims who were subsequently reunited with their families.
The third victim, a male, sustained a gunshot wound inflicted by the terrorists and died while being evacuated for medical attention.
In Kano State, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Gwarzo Local Government Area after armed elements rustled livestock from a community. Sector 1 troops pursued the terrorists and made contact with them as they attempted to escape, forcing them to abandon the livestock and flee.
Further exploitation of the area on 26 August led to the recovery of additional animals, bringing the total recovered to 94 livestock comprising 57 cows and 37 sheep. The recovered animals were subsequently handed over to their rightful owners in the presence of representatives of security agencies and local government authorities.
The operations underline the dual security challenge facing communities across the North West, where terrorist and criminal networks continue to threaten both human security and rural livelihoods. The recovery of the livestock also restores an important economic asset to affected communities, particularly in areas where livestock represents a significant component of household livelihoods.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said troops would sustain intelligence-driven operations, aggressive patrols and rapid responses to threats across the Joint Operations Area, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security forces.
