Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its role in international peace and security as the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), attended the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

A statement signed by Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, said General Musa attended the opening session alongside Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, who led the Nigerian delegation to the global gathering.
Following the opening session, the Defence Minister proceeded to the Defence Section of the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, where he undertook an operational visit and received a briefing on the country’s military-diplomatic engagements within the UN system.
The Defence Attaché, Brigadier General EA Koleosho, briefed the Minister on the Section’s strategic activities and operational commitments, providing an overview of its responsibilities in support of Nigeria’s engagement with the United Nations.
General Musa commended Brigadier General Koleosho and his team for what he described as their professionalism, loyalty and commitment to upholding the ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The Minister also reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to restore and expand Nigeria’s active footprint in international peace and security efforts.
He emphasised the administration’s commitment to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations across the globe, positioning the country’s international military engagement around the promotion of stability and security.
The Minister’s visit to the Defence Section at Nigeria’s UN mission therefore underscored the operational and diplomatic dimensions of Nigeria’s continuing engagement with the United Nations, while reinforcing the government’s stated intention to deepen the country’s contribution to global peacekeeping.
