🇳🇬 Teamwork, Family Support Critical to Military Effectiveness, GOC 2 Division Tells NAOWA

The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) to sustain teamwork, mutual understanding and support for their spouses as part of efforts to promote stable families and strengthen personnel effectiveness.

Major General Mahmuda gave the charge on 8 September 2026 when the Chairperson, NAOWA 2 Division Chapter, Mrs Munnira Mahmuda, led members of the Association on her maiden visit to the Headquarters, 2 Division, at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

The GOC said adequate support for military personnel at home helps create a conducive family environment in which personnel can remain focused and effectively discharge their responsibilities. He also encouraged NAOWA members to strengthen their relationship with the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and develop initiatives capable of improving the welfare of the wider barracks community.

Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, disclosed in a statement that the GOC assured the Association of the Division’s continued support, stressing that the welfare of personnel and their families remains important to the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

Earlier, Mrs Munnira Mahmuda congratulated the GOC on his appointment, describing it as a reflection of his professional competence, leadership qualities and operational experience. She pledged to build on the achievements of previous NAOWA leadership and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance the Association’s objectives in family welfare, women empowerment, education and community development.

The NAOWA 2 Division Chairperson also pledged her support for the President of NAOWA, Dr Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, in advancing the Association’s programmes and solicited the Division’s support for her tenure.

She stressed that stable and empowered families contribute to the morale, focus and effectiveness of military personnel, while praying for a successful tenure for the GOC.
