The attack occurred on 7 September 2026 as troops continued counter-terrorism operations in the area. The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed in a statement that timely air support strengthened the ground response, with the Air Component providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) coverage and conducting precision strikes against identified hostile elements as they attempted to withdraw.

The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) also supported the operation by providing local information and assisting troops in maintaining situational awareness during the engagement.

One soldier sustained a gunshot injury to the left arm during the encounter and was promptly evacuated for medical attention. He was stabilised and is responding to treatment, with his condition reported as stable.

Following the terrorists’ withdrawal, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the outcome of the engagement, recover abandoned weapons and equipment and gather intelligence to support follow-up operations against the fleeing terrorist elements.

Troops remain firmly deployed and on heightened alert across the area, conducting aggressive patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement and action.

The military urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
