Conveying
the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the COAS commended Rwanda's
profound national reconstruction following the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi,
emphasizing that institutional discipline, strategic leadership, and social
cohesion remain vital to sub-regional stability.
The working visit featured high-level strategic talks with Rwanda's Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, and Army Chief of Staff, Major General Vincent Nyakarundi, centering on professional military exchanges, specialized counter-terrorism training, and joint operational capacity building across shared regional corridors.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the high-level deliberations form part of an expanded bilateral architecture designed to harmonize cross-border intelligence, intercept illicit terror financing networks, and secure volatile operational zones.
A cornerstone of the strategic engagement involved an operational tour of the Rwandan Engineering Manufacturing Company (REMCO), where Lieutenant General Shaibu inspected advanced indigenous production and technical engineering systems.
Emphasizing the imperative of technological self-reliance, the leadership pursued technical exchanges, collaborative research, and localized maintenance frameworks to strengthen Nigeria's domestic defence manufacturing capabilities, reaffirming the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to practical partnerships, operational interoperability, and collective regional security.
