General Musa issued the assurance during a high-level strategic engagement with a delegation of ECOMOG Veterans, led by Major General Ohifeme Ejimai (Rtd), at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Ministry is actively completing the comprehensive documentation of service records, operational casualties, and historical archives to guarantee proper preservation for national posterity.
Highlighting the substantial human capital and financial resources deployed by Nigeria during regional stabilization operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone, General Musa emphasized that fallen personnel who paid the ultimate price will remain permanently honored within national security history.
During the briefing, Major General Ejimai (Rtd) outlined the operational readiness of surviving veterans to support national security frameworks, while advocating for the resolution of remaining documentation gaps and the formal establishment of a dedicated regional remembrance day.
Formed under ECOWAS leadership in 1990, ECOMOG relied heavily on Nigerian military personnel and strategic command to restore constitutional order, protect civilian populations, and enforce stability across West Africa during complex regional conflicts.
