The operations comprised ground engagements, an air operation and defensive counter-actions across the sector, resulting in the disruption of terrorist activity and the recovery of assorted weapons and ammunition.
A statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said troops conducted a coordinated ambush against a terrorist enclave in the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area, neutralising 16 terrorists and recovering assorted arms, magazines and ammunition.
The statement said the operation was followed by a precision air strike conducted by the Air Component of OPHK in the early hours of 1 October after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform detected a concentration of terrorists and motorcycles within Sector 4. Following target identification and acquisition, the air interdiction recorded a direct hit, with subsequent assessment confirming the destruction of the identified target.
Meanwhile, insurgents launched coordinated attacks on troop positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha. The troops repelled the attacks, forcing the assailants to withdraw, while follow-up exploitation and mop-up operations continued across the general area.
Three soldiers were killed during the engagements, while wounded personnel were evacuated and are receiving medical treatment in stable condition.
The operational successes come as Headquarters Theatre Command continues its ongoing reorganisation aimed at strengthening joint integration, improving operational synergy and enhancing coordination among relevant stakeholders in the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency campaign.
The Theatre Command said the renewed approach is focused on sustaining coordinated land and air operations and leveraging intelligence, technology and joint capabilities to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North East.
As Nigeria marks its Independence Anniversary, OPHK troops remain committed to defending the nation's territorial integrity and supporting efforts to create conditions for lasting peace, security and socio-economic development across the region.
The Joint Task Force North East also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies as operations continue across the Theatre.
