National Anti-Doping Committee Commends Army for Producing Disciplined Athletes

The National Anti-Doping Committee has applauded the Nigerian army for demonstrating the capacity to produce top athletes that have represented Nigeria at international sporting events.

The Chairman of the National Anti-Doping Committee, Barister Rasheed Olarenwaju gave the commendation when he led a delegation of the committee on a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai at the Army Headquarters, Abuja. 

Barrister Rasheed said the army is a stakeholder in the fight against the menace of corrupt practices such as doping in sports.

"Like its counterparts in the world, the Committed is saddled with the responsibility to promote free sports by implementing a robust national anti doping program that holistically addresses the issues of doping in sports in compliance with the world Anti-doping code and its international standards"

"The capacity of the army to produce some of the most disciplined athletes in the country is recognised and Off recent, the army provide team Nigeria with some of the top athletes that represented Nigeria at the 2019 All African Games in Rabat Morocco" said Barrister Rasheed. 

Responding, the Chief of Army Staff,  Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai who was represented by the Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation, Major general Okwudili Azinta said from the recruitment into arm, a message is send against any substance abuse, which makes the army ready partners with the Anti-doping fight. 

"The Nigerian army is a very disciplined organisation, we encourage sports and we have zero tolerance on doping, this message is loud and clear because Sports is a very important activity that must be carried out with commitment to fair play, creating a level playing ground and protecting the rights of clean athletes" said Azinta. 

Also, a delegation from the Nigeria Policing Program led by Barrister Kemi Okenyiodu was at the Army Headquarters

to appreciate the support the Chief of Army Staff has given them on the course of their two and half years program. 

According to Barrister Kemi, said they were also at the army Headquarters to inform the COAS that the program was coming to an end after various programs that cut across states with participation also from the Nigerian army.
