The Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has been called upon to join the fight against religious extremism, corruption, violence of all forms, and all the agents of distabilization especially the ingoing war against insurgency through the medium of music.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai made the call when he received a delegation of the PMAN at the At Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
General Buratai who called on the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to compose music with lyrics that would help checkmate vices in the society pointed out that music is one of the strategic instruments used in ages past to unite and develop societies, bring people together, as well as educate the youth and the generality of the public on sensitive issues that affect common human existence and the case should not be different now.
while appreciating the delegation for commensurating with the army over fallen heroes of war, especially the ongoing war against insurgency, the army chief was quick to point out that the founding fathers of PMAN, the late Sunny Okosun of vleesed memory and Christy Igbokwe have made their marks in the music industry and their lyrics are still telling the stories of our common struggles as a nation and is still very relevant.
"The PMAN has very important role to play in our security, unity and of course in our development as a nation, let me appreciate the delegation led by the National President for commensurating with us where our troops have sacrificed and are still sacrificing their lives so that the rest of us will live in peace and harmony"
"The challenges we are facing of insecurity, insurgency kidnappings and the rest are still with us, in this regards I call upon the PMAN to join us in their own way in the fight against all the agents of distabilisation and disunity, they must also be told in plain language through music, to checkmate the agents of distabilisation and disunity in our country" said Buratai.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Amina Dangaji said life without peace is meaningless pointing out that every citizen is a stakeholders in the process of peace building.
She said the organisation wants to use music to create awareness through concerts and rallies to achieve the purpose of helping the society out of social vices.
"We are in need of peace to develop and progress into a life of abundance and meaningful development, also because peace is an attitude and a way of life, we are also stakeholders in the process of peace building"
"PMAN want to align with your fight against insurgency and to commensurate with you on your men that loss their lives in the course this insurgency affecting the nation , we want to use music to create more awareness to the public to support and assist the military in this fight against insurgency" said PMAN President.
The Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN) was founded in 1984 by Christy Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun to bring together all performing musicians in Nigerian under one platform and to also protect the rights of the artist.
