Nigeria's Armed Forces Win Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals At Invictus Games Despite Visa Challenges

Nigeria's representatives at the Invictus Games in Canada have won gold, silver and bronze medals inspite of visa challenges that left seven of the athletes out 21 team members out of the game.

Following the visit of Prince Harry to Nigeria last year an invitation was extended to the Nigerian Military to participate in the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada and a team, comprising 3 officers and 21 players, including a team physiotherapist, were set to go for the games with Nigeria being the sole African representation.

But despite efforts from the Nigerian military authorities, only 14 members of the team, excluding the team leader, captain, and physiotherapist, were granted visas to the games which the Invictus Games Foundation cateres for all team's accommodation and feeding needs.

It would be recalled that Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa spoke out about the incident at a recent event citing the need to build the country to its fullest potentials and stop the mentality of being the ones seeking to always travel out to other nations.

The Invictus Foundation Centre, which is the first of its kind in Africa is currently under construction as part of the initiatives by the foundation run by Prince Harry, to cater for the mental healing of wounded in action personnel as well as contribute to the overall promotion of the welfare of the servicemen and women especially those that sustained various degree of injuries while protecting our dear nation.
