Authorities Issue Severe flooding Warnings, Fatalities Yet To Be Determined in Texas

Heavy rains have resulted to what authorities described as "a catastrophic flooding event in parts of central Texas, killing a yet to be confirmed number of people.

The National Weather Service issued multiple flash flood warnings followed by a flash flood emergency early on Friday morning for Gillespie and Mason counties, following heavy rainfall that lasted for hours in the hill country west of Austin, in United States.

A warning earlier issued said “life-threatening flooding is imminent or occurring. Leave low-lying or flood-prone areas immediately, but do not drive over water-covered roads.”

“Conditions are life-threatening! DO NOT go out onto the roads,” the National Weather Service in San Angelo urged on Friday morning. “Expect roads washed out and rapid rises on rivers and creeks.”

City Authorities began water rescues and evacuations on Friday even as river levels surged, resulting to the flash flooding.

The rains come after a long drought in the region that has left the soil dry, as automated rain gauges indicate a large and deadly flood wave is moving down the Guadalupe River, as warned by the National Weather Service.
