Curbing Ellicit Fincail Flows - Customs Boss Calls For Alignment Among Relevant Agencies

Heads of some agencies in Nigeria

The Nigeria Customs Service says the Service has continued to play a vital role in combating illicit financial flows (IFFs).

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi said this at the opening session of the National Conference on Combating Illicit Financial Flows in Abuja.

According to Adeniyi, Customs’ daily operations include strict monitoring of cross-border movements of cash and negotiable instruments and enforcing mandatory declarations for transactions above the threshold value.

The Comptroller-General therefore called for a coordinated approach involving all key stakeholders, especially as Nigeria prepares for its Financial Action Task Force (FATF) mutual evaluation.

The critical players whose roles must be aligned to effectively tackle the issue related to financial crimes include the Nigeria Customs Service, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), tax authorities, among other relevant agencies.
