Following their 2024 WAFCON victory in Rabat, the Super Falcons brought their triumph home with a celebratory tour across Lagos, drawing thousands to the streets.
Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, turned Lagos into a moving sea of celebration on Tuesday as they paraded their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy through major streets in a euphoric victory tour.
Fresh off their epic comeback against
Morocco in the final, the Falcons mounted an open-top bus draped in green and
white, waving the coveted trophy as fans flooded the roads in admiration. From
Ikeja to Lagos Island and Surulere, crowds roared, waved flags, and sang
victory songs in unison.
The players, adorned in celebratory
attire, smiled and interacted with the excited public. Market vendors left
their stalls, schoolchildren sprinted after the motorcade, and families lined
the streets, unified in a shared national moment.
Traffic slowed, but spirits soared.
The city transformed into a carnival of joy — a spontaneous tribute to a team
that has inspired the nation.
Lagos State
Sports Officials,
who joined the procession, praised the team’s feat and reiterated government
commitment to investing in women’s sports and youth development.
“The Super Falcons have once again
made Nigeria proud. Their dedication, courage, and achievements are an
inspiration to young girls everywhere,” said a State Sports Official during the parade.
As the trophy gleamed in the
afternoon sun, it stood as more than silverware — it became a powerful symbol
of Nigerian excellence, resilience, and hope.
