The Federal Government has increased the financial reward for Head Coach, Justine Madugu, aligning it with the player bonuses following Nigeria’s WAFCON 2024 triumph.

Following Nigeria’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Head Coach, Justine Madugu has received a significantly enhanced financial reward from the Federal Government — in line with that of his players.

Madugu’s tactical brilliance saw the Super Falcons claw back from a 2–0 deficit to defeat the host nation at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday, 26 July 2025. The victory marked Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, solidifying their continental dominance.

Upon the team’s return to Abuja, President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomed the squad at Aso Rock and announced a $50,000 reward for each member of the technical crew. But fresh details have emerged revealing that Madugu’s reward has now been upgraded to over $100,000 — the same figure awarded to each player for their contribution to the triumph.

The news was disclosed by International Sports Journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account. He cited Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade as confirming the update.

This gesture underscores growing appreciation for the leadership and strategic impact of coaching staff in Nigeria’s football success stories. For Madugu, it’s a well-earned recognition at the peak of a glorious tournament.
