Mauritian rider, Kim le Court, has become the first African to win a stage at the Tour de France Femmes, seizing the yellow jersey after a gutsy sprint finish in Stage Five.
History was made in Guéret as Kim le Court of Mauritius surged into the record books on
Wednesday, clinching victory on Stage Five of the 2025 Tour de France Femmes — and with it, the coveted yellow
jersey.
The 29-year-old AG Insurance–Soudal rider edged out Dutch star Demi Vollering by a wheel in a thrilling
finish after a gruelling 165.8km ride — the longest stage in this year’s
edition. Le Court had joined a late seven-rider breakaway and showcased her
sprinting prowess to claim the win.
Le Court risked celebration as she
sat up crossing the line, but her lead held firm, sparking scenes of
celebration across Africa and the global women’s cycling community.
She now leads France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prévot by 18 seconds in the general
classification, while veteran Marianne Vos
slipped to sixth overall after finishing 33 seconds behind in the main group.
The stage was not without incident — Olympic champion, Kristen Faulkner of the
U.S. withdrew after crashing in the neutralised zone, marking her third
consecutive fall in the race.
With four stages to go, attention shifts to Thursday’s mountain stage from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert (123.7km), which could shake up the general classification further.
