The training follows heightened threats along frontline corridors and aligns with the Nigerian Air Force's ongoing efforts to improve troop survivability through advanced combat support measures.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its push for combat medical preparedness by training frontline troops of the 413 Force Protection Group (FPG) on emergency life-saving skills. The exercise, held on 25 July 2025 at the Air Mobile First Aid Unit (AMFAU), Kaduna, was conducted by the School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM) under the directive of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.

The training forms part of a wider strategy to bolster the capacity of air force personnel to render immediate medical assistance in austere and hostile environments. Trainees underwent a rigorous blend of theoretical instruction and practical simulation exercises focused on trauma care and casualty management in active combat zones.

Key components of the course included techniques in airway management such as the jaw thrust and nasopharyngeal insertion, as well as hemorrhage control through wound packing and the application of tourniquets. Personnel engaged in hands-on drills that mimicked battlefield trauma scenarios, ensuring the development of muscle memory and composure under pressure.

Commandant of 413 FPG, Air Commodore Rilwan Abdullahi, actively led his troops during the exercise, stressing that mission success increasingly depends on every soldier’s ability to preserve life before evacuation or advanced care. “This training reflects our absolute commitment to operational readiness and troop survival,” he said.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Air Force, the initiative aligns with a broader push to strengthen self-sufficiency, readiness, and survivability among frontline operatives amid evolving asymmetric threats in the region.
