Istanbul, Turkey – July 26, 2025 — Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle MON, led a high-level delegation to the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The event, which attracted participants from 120 countries and over 400 defense companies representing 44 nations, provided a platform for showcasing the latest military technologies and fostering international defense collaborations.
During the exhibition, the Nigerian delegation visited Makine ve Kimya Endustrisi (MKE), a major Turkish state-owned defense manufacturer. The group was welcomed by MKE CEO Ilhami Keles and toured the facility to review cutting-edge military equipment and innovations. MKE specializes in producing strategic military hardware, ammunition, and advanced technologies aimed at achieving Turkey’s self-sufficiency in defense production.
Dr. Matawalle also held important discussions with key defense leaders, including Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence Industry, Vugar Mustafayev, and Turkey’s Deputy Minister of National Defence, Musa Heybet.
These meetings focused on strengthening
military-technical cooperation between Nigeria and both countries, with an
emphasis on joint manufacturing, equipment acquisition, and technology
exchange.
The IDEF 2025 exhibition featured
over 900 Turkish defense companies alongside hundreds of international firms,
showcasing advancements across land, air, sea, space, and cyber warfare
sectors.
Beyond defense technology, the
Nigerian minister also visited Turkey’s renowned Acıbadem Hospital, meeting
with its President, Dr. Mehmet Ali Aydinlar, to explore potential medical
collaborations benefiting both civilian and military personnel.
The Nigerian delegation actively engaged with multiple exhibitors to gain insights into emerging defense technologies and explore future partnerships that could enhance Nigeria’s military capabilities.
The official opening ceremony of IDEF
2025 was graced by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
alongside dignitaries from participating nations.
