The
visit on Thursday, 31 July 2025, was part of the Senate Committee on Army’s
oversight on the 2023 and 2024 Appropriation Acts.
The Nigerian Senate has pledged deeper collaboration with
the Nigerian Army to strengthen national security efforts, promising
legislative and oversight support to enhance military capability and service
delivery.
This assurance was given during an oversight visit by the
Senate Committee on Army, led by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa
Yar’Adua, to Army Headquarters in Abuja. The visit, which took place on
Thursday, 31 July, was part of the committee’s mandate to monitor the
implementation of the 2023 and 2024 Appropriation Acts across military
formations.
According to a statement by Acting Director Army Public
Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Senator Yar’Adua
commended the Nigerian Army for its operational efficiency and project
execution, noting that the committee had observed significant progress during
its nationwide assessment of Army formations.
“The visit has provided us with firsthand insights into
the challenges and achievements of the Nigerian Army. We are satisfied with the
outcomes and will ensure continued legislative support,” Senator Yar’Adua
said, while also praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing
national security.
COAS Oluyede said, “We urge the National
Assembly to support the removal of the Nigerian Army from the current envelope
budgeting system. This is essential to address pressing logistical shortfalls,
inadequate accommodation, and funding for operations.”
The oversight visit marks a reaffirmation of legislative-executive
cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
