The incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by JAS/ISWAP terrorists in the North-East, even as military operations intensify under renewed counterterrorism directives by Nigeria’s defence leadership.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected JAS/ISWAP insurgents on the town of Bitta in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State. The attempted breach occurred at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, 27 July 2025, with the assailants advancing from the Damboa axis under the cover of night.

Despite briefly infiltrating the defensive perimeter, the insurgents were swiftly overpowered by a tactical counterassault led by forward-deployed units. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists. Troops recovered multiple AK-47 rifles at the scene. Remarkably, no casualties were reported among the Nigerian soldiers during the confrontation.

In a follow-up visit on Sunday, 28 July 2025, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, along with senior commanders, conducted an on-ground assessment in Bitta. He commended the troops for their swift response and directed immediate remobilization to reinforce the area.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army, the general security situation in the region remains calm but volatile, with forces maintaining high combat readiness and morale.
