Trump Sets 10-12 Day Deadline for Russia to End Ukraine War, Warns of Sanctions

Scotland – July 28, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday a new deadline of 10 to 12 days for Russia to show progress toward ending the 3½-year war in Ukraine or face sanctions and tariffs. Speaking during meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s lack of movement toward peace.

“There’s no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait?” Trump said, signaling readiness to impose penalties on Moscow if demands are unmet. Despite his tough stance, Trump emphasized his affection for the Russian people and reluctance to hurt them economically.

The Kremlin has not yet responded to the new deadline. Ukraine’s leadership welcomed Trump’s statement, with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak thanking the U.S. president for delivering “a clear message of peace through strength.”

Trump also dismissed calls for further talks with Putin, pointing to Russia’s ongoing attacks in Ukraine as evidence of failed diplomacy. Earlier, Trump had set a 50-day deadline but now shortened it amid continuing hostilities.

The announcement comes amid Trump’s ongoing efforts to broker peace in other global conflicts, including the Gaza war, and his campaign promise to swiftly end the Ukraine conflict.
