This is the first time Nigeria’s aviation research and training powerhouses are uniting under one international conference to tackle manpower gaps and sustainability challenges.

Themed “Innovative Multimodal Transportation Solutions, Regulatory and Policy Framework for Development and Sustainability,” the conference drew scholars, policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

According to the Registrar of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, the event marked a milestone in repositioning Nigeria and Africa’s aviation industry through research-driven solutions. He noted that AAAU’s mandate remains focused on closing research gaps, grooming manpower, and providing homegrown responses to Africa’s transport challenges.

Similarly, the Rector of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila Adamu, said the collaboration builds on NCAT’s 60-year legacy of training, now expanded into research and innovation. He stressed the urgency of addressing sustainability, safety oversight, unmanned aircraft integration, and manpower shortages through evidence-based research.

The Chairman of AAAU Governing Council, Alhaji Dr. Bukar Goni, expressed optimism that the conference would deliver actionable solutions to strengthen manpower development in aviation.

Keynote speaker Prof. Innocent Ogwude, Nigeria’s foremost transportation scholar, and lead paper presenter Capt. Ricardo Garcia, PhD—former head of Bolivia’s Civil Aviation Authority and ICAO representative—set the tone for robust exchanges.

The conference continues with paper presentations, discussions, and collaborations expected to shape the future of aviation policy and practice in Africa.

Fact-Check & Background Context

AAAU was established by the Federal Government in 2022 as Africa’s first specialized aviation and aerospace university.

NCAT, based in Zaria, remains Africa’s oldest aviation training school, established in 1964.

Both institutions face rising pressure to address manpower shortages as Nigeria expands its aviation sector.
