The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has concluded a three-day operational visit to 6 Division, Nigerian Army, commissioning multiple infrastructure projects while engaging with troops and state authorities in Akwa Ibom.

During the visit, the COAS inaugurated signature military facilities, reinforced troop welfare initiatives, and met with Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno to strengthen civil-military collaboration.
According to a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS commissioned the Headquarters 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre at Port Harcourt Barracks.
Projects executed under the leadership of Brigadier General
S Ahmed included newly constructed and remodeled Corporal and Below Quarters
(CBQs), a remodeled Cantonment Office, and a Petroleum Oil Lubricant Point.
In 16 Brigade, Bayelsa State, Oluyede inaugurated the new 16 Brigade Annex Complex built under Brigade Commander Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo, an NDDC-sponsored electrification project, and a Garrison House constructed by Lieutenant Colonel Sheriff Kaigama.
Other commissioned works included the remodeled 5 Battalion Quarter Guard, the remodeled 343 Artillery Regiment Commanding Officer’s House, a newly installed transformer, and the groundbreaking ceremony for 20 two-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at Elele Barracks.
The COAS also inspected the
fully renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa
Ibom State.
As part of his strategic leadership
engagement, Oluyede visited Governor Umo Eno at Government House, Uyo. The COAS
reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army belongs to all citizens and praised the state
government’s support, which he said contributes to Akwa Ibom’s reputation as
one of the country’s most peaceful states.
Governor Eno commended the Army for
its role in maintaining security and fostering civil-military relations,
promising continued support for the institution’s constitutional mandate.
Lieutenant General Oluyede also
addressed troops at 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt, and 6 Battalion
Parade Ground, Ibagwa, Abak LGA. He praised the soldiers’ dedication in ongoing
anti-oil theft and pipeline protection operations and reassured them that
welfare measures remain a priority under his “soldier first” approach.
