The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended two ValueJet pilots for a serious safety breach at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, involving a takeoff procedure initiated without mandatory clearance.

According to a statement released Tuesday and signed by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the flight crew violated core civil aviation regulations by commencing departure from the designated bay without pre-departure clearance.

"This reckless action endangered ground personnel and airport users, contravening both national and international safety standards," the statement noted.

The NCAA has suspended the licences of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a full investigation.

The authority said it views the incident “with utmost seriousness,” and reassured stakeholders that there will be no compromise on aviation safety protocols.
