The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) have pledged stricter safety oversight following an explosion at DICON’s Kaduna ordnance factory that claimed one life and injured several workers.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information, said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He stressed that the incident is “under control” and that there is no cause for public panic.
DICON’s spokesperson, Maria Sambo, explained that the accident occurred as specialists were completing the destruction of expired materials, including ammonium nitrates, primer caps and propellants. She noted that most expired stock had been safely destroyed since July and confirmed that the remaining materials have now been made safe.
The injured are being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna. A Board of Inquiry has been set up to determine the exact cause of the accident. Both DHQ and DICON emphasized their commitment to safeguarding workers, communities and maintaining high safety standards.
