She described the family as “the foundational pillar of social cohesion, moral integrity, and
national stability”, warning that broken homes expose youths to crime and
violent recruitment.
According to her, Kaduna, a garrison state,
understands the stakes. “Without security,
there can be no development, and without collaboration, there can be no
security,” she said.
She praised the Armed Forces for
their sacrifices, noting that civil–military cooperation must go hand in hand
with family-driven values of discipline, responsibility, and respect.
The Deputy Governor stressed that
dysfunctional homes breed vulnerabilities, while strong families nurture
resilience, tolerance, and civic responsibility. She urged national leaders to
integrate civic and moral education into curricula to fortify future
generations.
Kaduna, she said, continues to invest
in education, youth empowerment, and social protection as part of a holistic
approach to crime prevention and peace-building.
“Every small act of security nurtured at home radiates outward to fortify our nation. Security is a shared responsibility, and peace is the shared prize,” she concluded.
FACT-CHECK AND BACKGROUND CONTEX
Kaduna
State’s prominence as a security hub makes its leadership’s voice particularly
significant in national defence discourses. Hosting the NDA, AFCSC
Jaji, and other military establishments, Kaduna has often been described as
the “nerve centre of Nigeria’s defence training.”
The linkage
between family and security is not new in Nigerian policy discussions. However,
Dr. Balarabe’s framing of the family as the “first line of defence”
highlights a growing recognition among policymakers that sustainable security
cannot rely solely on military might. Weak family systems often correlate with
youth vulnerability to banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent crime,
while strong family systems encourage discipline and civic responsibility.
This
approach aligns with broader calls for multi-sectoral security strategies
that combine military readiness with education reforms, social protection,
and community resilience, all key to tackling Nigeria’s layered insecurity.
