🇳🇬 Troops Foil Planned Militia Attack in Plateau, Arrest Suspect, Recover AK-47

 

Troops of 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have intercepted a militia member allegedly mobilised for an attack in Plateau State, recovering an AK-47 rifle, magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition in the process.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday, 04 September, underscores the military’s renewed drive to prevent communal attacks across Plateau’s troubled districts.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, troops responded to a distress call about militias mobilising to attack communities in Fann District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The soldiers mounted an ambush at Kaskra in Ropp District where they intercepted and arrested one armed suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed the individual was mobilised from a nearby community to carry out attacks on Nding Village in Barkin Ladi.

The suspect is currently in custody undergoing interrogation to assist follow-up operations. Meanwhile, troops have intensified search and interception efforts to track down other militias reportedly mobilised for the same mission.

Major Zhakom stressed that the Joint Task Force will remain unrelenting in its mandate to secure communities and restore lasting peace within Plateau and its wider Joint Operations Area.
