🇳🇬🇨🇭 Nigeria, Switzerland Agree to Strengthen Defence Cooperation with Focus on Non-Kinetic Security

 

Nigeria and Switzerland have agreed to deepen defence collaboration, with renewed emphasis on non-kinetic security partnerships aimed at promoting peace, stability, and humanitarian engagement.

The agreement followed a courtesy visit by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Patrick Felix Egloff, to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, Ambassador Egloff reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and defence cooperation with Nigeria, noting Switzerland’s particular interest in supporting non-kinetic approaches to security challenges.

The Ambassador highlighted humanitarian engagement, dialogue-driven initiatives, and peace-building efforts as critical components of addressing the root causes of insecurity, stressing the importance of sustained institutional partnerships between both countries.

Responding, the Chief of Defence Staff welcomed the Swiss Ambassador and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s continued interest in Nigeria’s security and stability. He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic efforts and underscored their importance in complementing ongoing military operations.

General Oluyede further expressed optimism that the Nigeria–Switzerland defence relationship would continue to deepen, delivering more impactful outcomes in areas of mutual interest, particularly peacebuilding, strategic cooperation, and capacity development.

The engagement underscores the shared commitment of Nigeria and Switzerland to constructive dialogue and collaborative, non-kinetic approaches to contemporary security challenges.
