🕊️ Sudan’s Civilians Continue to Bear the Brunt of War as Drone Strikes Kill Families and Undermine Aid Efforts

By Nokai Origin

Civilians in Sudan’s Greater Kordofan region are facing escalating violence and humanitarian deprivation as drone strikes persist, killing and injuring scores of non-combatants, disrupting aid delivery, and deepening an already catastrophic crisis in a war that has now lasted nearly three years.

According to a report from the United Nations, recent drone strikes between late January and early February have killed more than 90 civilians and injured at least 142, hitting residential areas and medical facilities despite efforts by the Sudanese Armed Forces to break paramilitary sieges.

Both the regular army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been linked to these operations, and the RSF has denied responsibility for attacks on health centres and humanitarian aid convoys.

The relentless violence comes as Sudan’s humanitarian situation has deteriorated with millions displaced, widespread hunger, and severely constrained access to basic services. Humanitarian organisations operating in the region face significant danger, with assaults on health workers and aid convoys becoming more common, severely restricting critical medical and food assistance to vulnerable populations.

Parents, children, and older adults in rural Kordofan communities describe living in constant fear as the conflict erodes traditional coping mechanisms and fractures community structures. Health workers report that strikes on clinics and hospitals have crippled care capacity, forcing families to travel long distances under threat of violence for even basic treatment.

The continuation of hostilities threatens to push more civilians toward extreme hunger and displacement at a moment when international funding for Sudan’s response remains critically under-resourced. Humanitarian actors are calling for immediate ceasefires, secure corridors for aid access, and increased global support to prevent further loss of life and dignity.
