The Army Chief made the remarks on Thursday while receiving the Egyptian Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Mohammed Ibrahim, during a courtesy visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army on Thursday, Lt. Gen. Shaibu noted that Nigeria and Egypt maintain a longstanding military relationship, describing the partnership as a valuable platform for strengthening operational capability and professional development across both forces.
He emphasized that sustained collaboration through advanced military courses, training exchanges, and professional military education remains critical to preparing personnel to confront contemporary security challenges. The Army Chief observed that several Nigerian Army officers have benefited from specialized and advanced training programmes in Egypt, noting that the exposure has significantly contributed to strengthening the professional competence of the force.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu added that the Nigerian Army remains ready to expand such opportunities in order to equip its personnel with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to increasingly complex security threats. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional linkages between both armies through greater collaboration in strategic-level training and participation in programmes at the Nigerian Army War College.
Such engagements, he noted, would deepen professional ties, promote knowledge exchange, and enhance joint capacity to counter emerging threats, while also extending an invitation to the Egyptian Army to participate in the forthcoming Nigerian Army Day Celebration scheduled for July 2026.
The Army Chief further stressed the need to explore additional areas of cooperation, particularly in the development of aviation capabilities and operational support systems, explaining that closer collaboration in these domains would enhance operational readiness, technological innovation, and overall mission effectiveness.
Earlier, the Egyptian Defence Attaché, Col. Mohammed Ibrahim, said his visit was aimed at reviewing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between both militaries in 2024. He disclosed that significant progress had already been recorded in executing several aspects of the agreement, particularly in the area of training cooperation, while preparations were ongoing for the next Military Committee Meeting scheduled to hold in Cairo later this year.
Col. Ibrahim reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening military collaboration with Nigeria, especially in the areas of advanced military training and intelligence sharing to effectively address contemporary security challenges confronting both countries.
