The renewed push emerged during an operational appraisal visit to the 2 National Mission Force Brigade in Samaru Kataf, Kaduna State, where the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, assessed troop readiness, operational gaps and evolving security dynamics within the Joint Operations Area.
The visit, according to the Director Defence Information, Major General Sama'ila Uba, formed part of ongoing Defence Headquarters efforts to recalibrate combat effectiveness against terrorism, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other organised criminal threats across vulnerable corridors in Southern Kaduna and adjoining areas.
General Olufemi Oluyede charged troops to remain operationally proactive and technologically adaptive, warning that criminal networks continue to evolve in tactics and mobility.
“You must keep out-witting criminals by anticipating their actions and evolving effective counter measures. We will continue to support you with the necessary equipment, enablers, platforms and pay due attention to your welfare that will ensure your success,” the CDS stated while addressing personnel.
The defence chief expressed satisfaction with the troops’ alertness, discipline and operational posture, while directing sustained professionalism and intensified field dominance across the Brigade’s operational environment.
The appraisal also focused on identifying capability gaps affecting ongoing counterterrorism and stabilisation operations. During the visit, General Olufemi Oluyede inspected military deployments and ongoing Defence Headquarters projects within the area and subsequently ordered the provision of critical operational equipment and combat platforms considered inadequate for current operational demands.
The operational review reflects growing military emphasis on mobility, rapid-response coordination and intelligence fusion as security forces confront increasingly decentralised armed groups across Nigeria’s internal security theatres.
Earlier, Commander of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, Captain (NN) OJ Ekuma, highlighted operational gains recorded since the Brigade’s establishment in 2024, including the neutralisation of criminal elements, rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of rustled cattle and weapons, as well as the arrest of high-profile bandits and collaborators.
He noted that sustained military pressure has disrupted criminal movement corridors within the Brigade’s operational environment, contributing to improved security conditions in parts of Southern Kaduna.
The visit by the CDS, accompanied by Chief of Defence Operations, Major General JH Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General EF Oyinlola, and other senior defence officials, signals Defence Headquarters’ broader effort to strengthen troop welfare, operational logistics and battlefield efficiency amid continuing nationwide security operations.
