The inauguration of the Defence Institutional Technical Working Groups establishes formal collaboration channels designed to translate strategic intent into coordinated institutional, intelligence and operational outcomes, as contained in a statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

Speaking at the event, the head of the US delegation, Cate Dave, said the initiative supports long-term strategic planning aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and denying terrorists safe havens, emphasising the link between system strength and counterterrorism effectiveness.

On his part, the Nigerian delegation team lead, Francis Edosa, said the framework is structured to enhance the warfighting capability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and sharpen responsiveness to evolving threats, with the objective of restoring enduring peace and stability across affected regions.

Both sides emphasised the need for practical outcomes, accountability and sustained collaboration, underscoring a shared shift from policy articulation to execution-driven security cooperation.

The activation of the working groups reflects a broader recalibration in Nigeria’s defence posture, where partnerships are increasingly institutionalised around capability development, coordinated response systems and long-term security stabilisation.
