The humanitarian outreach, according to a statement issued by the Liaison Officer, NAOWA, Captain Jemila Jimoh, was led by the President of NAOWA, Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, across military formations and NAOWA institutions in Port Harcourt, underscoring the Association's commitment to complementing the Nigerian Army's welfare agenda for military families.
Dr Shaibu was accompanied by the wife of the Commander of the Namibian Army, Wing Commander Martha Lumba Nambahu, whose participation highlighted growing regional military family engagement during the NADCEL 2026 activities. Both were received by members of the military community, pupils, students and well-wishers with cultural performances celebrating Nigeria's rich heritage.
The outreach commenced with visits to the NAOWA Nursery and Primary School and NAOWA College, Port Harcourt, where the NAOWA President commended school administrators, teachers and staff for sustaining quality education and promoting strong moral values among children within the military community and the wider society.
In recognition of their contributions, Dr Shaibu presented cash rewards and welfare support to teaching and non-teaching staff, describing educators as vital partners in nurturing the intellectual development, character and leadership qualities of future generations.
The humanitarian programme continued at the 29 Battalion, where she addressed members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers' Wives Association (NASWA), encouraging them to sustain peaceful and supportive family environments. She stressed that stable homes remain essential to troop morale, operational effectiveness and the successful execution of the Nigerian Army's constitutional responsibilities.
Dr Shaibu also met with widows of fallen soldiers, paying tribute to the sacrifices of their late husbands while reaffirming NAOWA's commitment to supporting their welfare through sustained empowerment and assistance programmes.
The outreach concluded at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, where the NAOWA President visited women and children receiving treatment. She interacted with patients, offered words of encouragement and presented relief materials to support their treatment and recovery.
The Association said the engagements reflect its continued focus on quality education, healthcare support, women empowerment and family welfare initiatives designed to strengthen military households, improve the wellbeing of widows and vulnerable families, and complement the Nigerian Army's broader personnel welfare objectives.
