The clarification was issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, through its Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, following the conclusion of comprehensive intelligence assessments into the status of an individual intercepted by troops after the attack on Cross Kauwa.

According to the Theatre Headquarters, the individual has been identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi.

Operation HADIN KAI explained that troops of 68 Battalion took him into custody during an exploitation operation in line with established operational procedures, given the continued use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement, logistics and infiltration activities.

Following detailed profiling, intelligence assessments and other investigative processes, the military stated that no evidence was found linking the individual to any known terrorist organisation.

Investigations further established that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, where he engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.

Operation HADIN KAI stated that the individual has consequently been cleared of any terrorist affiliation.

The Theatre Command stressed that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during ongoing military operations are subjected to established due process and appropriate security screening to ensure innocent civilians are separated from genuine terrorist threats.

The clarification reflects Operation HADIN KAI's commitment to transparency and accuracy in the conduct of counterterrorism operations.

The Theatre Command reaffirmed that while troops remain resolute in denying terrorist groups freedom of action across the North East, operations will continue to be conducted in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
