🇳🇬 Nigeria Moves To Address Veterans’ Welfare And Pension Concerns




The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving outstanding welfare, remuneration and pension concerns affecting Nigeria’s military veterans, with the Ministry of Defence indicating that relevant authorities are working towards a fair and sustainable resolution.

The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by representatives of military veterans to the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja, on Wednesday.


Representing the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, acknowledged the sacrifices and distinguished service of the veterans and reaffirmed that their welfare remains a government priority.


General Musa stated that concerns surrounding wage and pension adjustments are receiving urgent attention, with relevant military, pension and financial authorities engaged to develop an outcome that is fair, properly funded and implementable.


The Minister appealed to the veterans for calm, patience and continued constructive engagement, stressing that sustained dialogue remains essential to resolving outstanding concerns while preserving the dignity and honour of those who served the nation.


He further explained that any adjustment to veterans’ entitlements must be properly computed, adequately funded and implemented in accordance with existing approvals, regulations and due process to ensure sustainability and prevent unintended disparities.


The Ministry of Defence assured the veterans that engagement with their representatives would continue and that appropriate updates would be provided as progress is made.


General Musa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s appreciation of the patriotism, courage and sacrifices of military veterans, stressing its commitment to ensuring that their service is recognised through sustained attention to their welfare and legitimate entitlements.
