The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, that ground forces achieved these tactical successes during clearance patrols and rapid-response operations across both states.
According to Captain Sinivie, troops of Sector 2 were conducting a fighting patrol to clear the Anka to Guruzu Road in Zamfara State on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, when they encountered a ambush by armed terrorists positioned on both sides of the transit route.
The patrol team responded with tactical heavy-fire engagement, fighting through the ambush site and inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents, forcing them to retreat in disarray into the surrounding bush.
Captain Sinivie noted that troops immediately dominated the Anka–Guruzu corridor to guarantee safe movement for civilian commuters, adding that one soldier who sustained a gunshot injury during the engagement was evacuated for medical care and remains in stable condition.
In Sokoto State on the same day, Sector 2 troops intercepted an insurgent group attempting to abduct herders and rustle cattle at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
Acting on actionable security intelligence, troops mobilized to Takasaba Village and engaged the armed gang with direct firepower, forcing the insurgents to flee and abandon 520 rustled livestock and two abducted herders.
The media officer identified the rescued herders as 50-year-old Malam Sulaiman and 14-year-old Nasiru Sulaiman, who were subsequently handed over to Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General WB Idris, praised the bravery and combat readiness of the troops, directing them to maintain continuous offensive pressure against terrorist remnants in the region.
Major General Idris reassured residents across the North West operational theatre of the military command's firm commitment to safeguarding rural communities, urging the public to maintain active civil-military cooperation through timely intelligence sharing.
