A deadly explosion ripped through a fireworks production building in central Thailand on 30 July 2025, killing at least nine people and leaving others injured or missing.

Nine people have been confirmed dead following a violent explosion at a building reportedly used for fireworks production in Thailand’s Suphan Buri province. According to the Samerkun Suphan Buri Rescue Foundation, two other victims remain in critical condition in hospital.

The blast occurred in a rural district surrounded by rice fields. Video and photographs circulating online showed destroyed wooden structures splintered across green farmland.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Pinyo Chanmanee stated that it was unclear whether the facility was licensed to handle explosive materials. The provincial government’s public relations office noted that at least one person sustained minor injuries, although the total number of missing persons remains unknown.

This incident bears a grim resemblance to past tragedies. In January 2024, another explosion in the same region claimed around 20 lives. Just months earlier in July 2023, a fireworks warehouse blast in southern Thailand killed at least 10 people and injured over 100.

Emergency services have cordoned off the site as investigators begin to probe the cause of the explosion. Meanwhile, locals continue to question enforcement of safety regulations in Thailand’s pyrotechnics industry, which has seen a worrying uptick in fatal accidents.
