Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, have successfully foiled a planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists around the Kashimri general area of Bama Local Government Area, Borno State.

The operation, conducted on 17 October 2025, followed an intensive clearance mission that led to the destruction of identified terrorist camps in the area, effectively frustrating plans to attack civilians and disrupt socio-economic activities. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising several insurgents while others fled with gunshot wounds.

According to a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the encounter came at a cost, as the Commanding Officer of 202 Tank Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, and a few other valiant soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

Lieutenant Colonel Anele noted that the Nigerian Army deeply mourns the fallen heroes who fought bravely for the peace and stability of the nation. “Their legacies shall endure forever,” she affirmed, adding that their sacrifice strengthens the Army’s resolve to rid Nigeria of terrorism.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, describing them as men of courage who stood firm in defence of the nation. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to relentlessly pursue all terrorist elements until lasting peace is achieved across the region and the country at large.

The Army further appealed to the public and media to refrain from sharing or publishing images of personnel who paid the supreme price during operations until their next of kin have been duly informed — a gesture aimed at preserving the dignity of fallen heroes and protecting their families’ privacy.
