President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in a move he said aims to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

Under the new structure, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General W. Shaibu becomes the new Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership during their tenure.
“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement read.
All appointments take immediate effect.
