According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of Boko Haram fighters around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area.

The terrorists, reportedly on two vehicles with 24 foot fighters, had set houses ablaze and terrorized locals before troops advanced and intercepted them. During a four-hour tactical pursuit, contact was established, leading to a heavy exchange of fire that left five terrorists neutralized. Others fled in disarray, with blood trails indicating likely casualties.

Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), five magazines, 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a mobile phone and a dagger. No troop casualties or equipment losses were recorded.

In a separate operation along the Gajiram–Bolori-Mile 40-Gajiganna axis, troops on motorcycles engaged Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. Four terrorists were neutralized, and two kidnapped victims - Mr. Modu Kinnami (55) and Mr. Bukar (57) - were rescued. Troops also recovered ₦4,355,000 cash, a blue pickup truck (Reg. No. GUB 327 XA), two new Tecno phones, and a jerrycan containing 30 litres of PMS.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the terrorists had demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and two phones for the release of the captives’ relative. Operations to track fleeing fighters are ongoing.

“Troops remain resolute in maintaining pressure on terrorist groups to deny them freedom of action and safeguard communities,” the statement emphasized.
