The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has condemned the early morning attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, describing the abduction of pupils, students and teachers as distressing and unacceptable.

According to a statement issued by the Diocesan Secretary, Reverend Father Jatau Luka Joseph, the raid occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Friday 21 November 2025, during which armed attackers invaded the school premises and abducted several individuals, including a security personnel who sustained a severe gunshot injury.


Security agencies were immediately alerted and have commenced coordinated efforts to ensure the safe rescue and return of all abducted persons. The Diocese confirmed that it is working closely with security operatives, community leaders and government authorities to reinforce the urgency of the operation.


The statement urged the public to remain calm and support ongoing security efforts while praying fervently for the quick and safe release of the victims. The Diocese reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and safety of children within its institutions.
