According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the incident occurred despite earlier government security intelligence warning of heightened threats in parts of Niger North Senatorial District.
The government confirmed that St. Mary’s School reopened and resumed academic activities without prior notification or clearance, contrary to an earlier directive which suspended all construction works and ordered the temporary closure of all boarding schools within the threatened zone.
Security agencies have launched full scale search and rescue operations to secure the safe return of the pupils. The government says it remains in constant contact with all involved formations and will provide continuous updates as more information becomes available.
The statement urged school administrators, local community leaders and stakeholders to comply strictly with security advisories, noting that safeguarding lives, especially those of children, is the administration’s highest priority.
Members of the public have been encouraged to remain calm and offer any useful information that could assist ongoing rescue efforts.
Fact Check and Background
The incident aligns with earlier intelligence warning of increased risk in parts of Niger North. Government issued directives were based on assessments by security agencies. Failure to comply resulted in continued exposure of vulnerable communities. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing across collaborative security formations.
