🇳🇬 Matawalle assures stability in Defence Ministry during Dubai Airshow mission

Minister of State for Defence Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has assured that government operations within the Ministry of Defence remain uninterrupted while Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar attends the 2025 Dubai International Airshow on presidential approval.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry, Matawalle debunked claims suggesting that the Minister travelled despite emerging security challenges in the country. 

He clarified that the delegation, which includes key military personnel, is on an approved engagement outside Nigeria for critical global defence collaboration.

The Dubai Airshow is recognised as one of the world's leading platforms for the aerospace, space and defence sectors, bringing together defence ministers, policymakers, innovators and officials to exchange strategic ideas and showcase advances in military technology.

Matawalle said the Nigerian delegation is participating to highlight national defence innovations and strengthen global cooperation. He emphasised that engagement abroad does not diminish government attention to domestic security, noting that coordinated strategies are already in motion to address current threats.

"As I mentioned previously, I immediately condemned the abduction and called for our security agencies to coordinate their efforts for the safe return of the students. Our strategies are in place, and we are in constant communication with the relevant authorities to facilitate their safe release," he stated.

He added that the two minister structure within some ministries allows continuity of operations regardless of official travel. He assured the public that Minister Badaru will actively rejoin ongoing security efforts upon his return, reaffirming the administration's commitment to the safe rescue of the abducted school students.
