🇳🇬 Defence Ministry Permanent Secretary pledges to uphold professionalism, transparency, discipline

The new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa has pledged to uphold professionalism, transparency, discipline and teamwork in advancing the core mandates of the ministry, which include defence policy formulation, military administration, logistics, procurement and international cooperation.

He stated this when he formally assumed office at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Ship House Abuja, on Wednesday 26 November 2025, describing his appointment as an honour, a responsibility and a call to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture. 

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence expressed, he expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, assuring that he would work in collaboration with the Ministers of Defence, the Service Chiefs, Directors and staff across the ministry to improve efficiency, resource management and operational readiness. 


He emphasised that staff welfare will receive priority, describing welfare as not a luxury but a necessity. Mr Pheelangwa was deployed to the Ministry of Defence from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
