The address was delivered on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, by the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, at the traditional regimental dinner held ahead of the joint graduation ceremony of the two courses on Friday.

He described the regimental dinner as a time-honoured military tradition that embodies discipline, etiquette and esprit de corps, noting that the evening was both a celebration of heritage and a prelude to a historic milestone in the life of the college.

According to him, the dinner served as a reminder of the core values that bind officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces together, discipline, loyalty, respect and service before self, while also offering a moment to honour the sacrifices of those who served before and to reaffirm commitment to the noble profession of arms.

Addressing members of Junior Course 100, the Army Chief said they had undergone rigorous training designed to sharpen tactical acumen, leadership capacity and professional bearing, adding that they represent the future of the Nigerian Army’s officer corps and are now ready to shoulder greater national responsibilities.

He said members of Senior Course 47 had been prepared through strategic depth, intellectual rigour and operational mastery, equipping them not only to command but also to shape policy, doctrine and the future direction of the Armed Forces.

The Chief of Army Staff noted that the joint graduation of the two courses represents a landmark in the history of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, reflecting the institution’s vision of synergy, integration and jointness, principles he described as indispensable in modern warfare.

He stressed that contemporary security challenges require collaboration across services, branches and command levels, noting that operational success is no longer achieved in isolation but through unity of effort and integrated action.

The Army Chief commended the Commandant of the college, Air Vice Marshal H I Al-Hajji, for introducing new training packages designed to prepare officers for the realities of modern conflict, with emphasis on critical thinking, joint operations and the synchronisation of land, maritime and air capabilities.

He noted that the college’s embrace of technology and innovation, including simulations and digital command tools, has strengthened officers’ capacity to operate effectively in complex, ambiguous and non-linear conflict environments, while positioning the institution as a standard-setter within Africa.

The Chief of Army Staff also highlighted Exercise Pascal View as a landmark validation of the college’s transformation efforts, describing it as a practical demonstration of how joint operations, technology and critical thinking can produce coherent strategies against contemporary threats.

He acknowledged the participation of allied students from sister African countries, describing their presence as a reflection of the African spirit of community, togetherness and collective security. He noted that their contributions enrich the courses through shared experiences and perspectives, reinforcing African military brotherhood.

As the officers prepare to graduate, the Chief of Army Staff urged them to lead with integrity, decide with courage, care for their subordinates and embrace jointness, stressing that unity of effort remains central to victory in modern conflict.

He reminded them that the uniform they wear is not a symbol of authority but a covenant of service to Nigeria and its people, charging them to carry the honour of the profession with humility and responsibility.

The address concluded with congratulations to members of Junior Course 100 and Senior Course 47, with prayers for distinguished service to Nigeria, the West African sub-region and the African continent.
