The annual observance is set aside by the Federal Government to honour serving personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria while also acknowledging the sacrifices of those who paid the supreme price in defending the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting lives and property.
According to a statement signed by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the event was renamed to better reflect its balanced focus on celebrating the living and remembering fallen heroes.
The Armed Forces explained that the commemoration is preceded by a week of activities, culminating in a grand parade and wreath laying ceremony on January 15.
The military leadership has urged members of the media to consistently adopt the official name, Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, in all future coverage to ensure accuracy and uniformity.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria also appreciated the media for its continued support in national security efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration in the fight against insecurity.
