The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to escalate offensive operations against bandits and criminal elements in the North West, declaring that national security must be restored without compromise.

The directive was issued during an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Gusau, where the Chief of Defence Staff assessed troop readiness, reviewed operational challenges, and reinforced frontline morale.
Addressing personnel, General Olufemi Oluyede commended troops for their resilience and sacrifices, urging sustained discipline, professionalism, and operational momentum in ongoing counter-banditry and counterterrorism operations as contained in a statement issued by Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said.
Operational Push and Force Support
The Chief of Defence Staff assured troops of continued support in welfare, training, and provision of operational equipment, stating that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will sustain pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is achieved.
He emphasised the critical role of air power in current operations, noting that efforts are underway to expand operational capabilities through additional platforms and improved inter-theatre coordination.
Civil-Military Coordination
During the visit, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, also paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Mallam Dauda Lawal, where he acknowledged the state government’s support to military operations and commended local communities for their cooperation.
He called for sustained collaboration, particularly in the area of timely and credible intelligence sharing to enhance operational effectiveness.
