Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have prevented a potential terrorist attack along a major access route in Zamfara State after recovering and safely disposing of an Improvised Explosive Device planted along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road.

The operation took place on 27 August 2026 in Bukkuyum Local Government Area after troops received credible intelligence about the presence of the explosive device. The response enabled security forces to locate the IED and secure the area before it could endanger motorists and other road users.
The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team subsequently facilitated the safe disposal of the device.
The incident highlights the continuing use of improvised explosive devices as part of terrorist tactics in the North West, particularly against routes used by civilians and security forces. The recovery also demonstrates the importance of intelligence-led intervention in detecting threats before they translate into casualties or disruption of movement.
Following the disposal operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols around the area to deny terrorist elements freedom of action and reinforce security along the route.
The Joint Task Force urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious objects or activities to security agencies, stressing that timely information remains critical to preventing attacks and protecting communities.
The operation adds to ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to secure communities and major routes across its Joint Operations Area while countering the evolving tactics of terrorist groups operating in the North West.
