MNJTF Force Commander Maj Gen Godwin Mutkut and OPHK Theatre Commander Maj Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar paid a joint operational visit to Sector 3 in Baga, Borno State, to assess counter-terror operations and tighten security on Lake Chad’s waterways.

The assessment comes amid sustained operations to deny insurgents freedom of movement on the lake and protect fishing and farming lifelines.
The commanders received briefings from 403 Amphibious Brigade’s Brig Gen Emmanuel Agada and Naval Base Lake Chad’s Commodore Peter Yilme on measures to secure the waterways, safeguard commerce, and block terrorist transit routes.
Maj Gen Mutkut called for strict performance monitoring, closer coordination,
and constant vigilance, stressing that stability in the basin is a shared
interest of all member states.
Maj Gen Abubakar praised troops’ efforts and directed commanders to maintain an
aggressive posture and high professionalism. He urged priority attention to
troop welfare and communications, and emphasized protection for farming and
fishing activities that sustain local communities.
The visit included a tour of facilities, signing of the visitors’ book,
exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph, with component and formation
commanders in attendance.
